Dear EPW Members
Our friend, Congresswoman Carolyn Maloney sent the below message. If you cannot attend, please support the effort to get a National Women’s History Museum built in Washington, D.C. see Dear Friends message below.
I am attending tomorrow’s launch and will send photos and a short report afterwards.
Please find below a message from Congresswoman Maloney. We sincerely hope that you can attend the campaign launch of #BecauseOfHer at Beach Café, located at 1326 Second Avenue (at 70th St), TOMORROW, Saturday, November 15th at 11:00 AM.
I am launching what I hope will become a viral campaign in support of the National Women’s History Museum. I want you to select an extraordinary woman – she can be someone from America’s history, someone you know, someone who inspired you, someone who made a difference – take a video or a picture of yourself holding up her picture with the hashtag #BecauseOfHer, and post it on Twitter, Facebook, Tumblr and/or Instagram. Then challenge someone else to do the same.
As you may know, we are at a critical point in trying to get legislation passed that would establish a commission to create a museum of women’s history on the mall in Washington, DC. The bill passed the House and is now awaiting action in the Senate. Unfortunately, the bill has been stalled by two Senators, Tom Coburn of Oklahoma and Mike Lee of Utah, who have refused to allow it to go to the floor for a vote. This campaign will increase pressure on the Senate to allow it to move forward.
Women’s contributions are often overlooked, forgotten or left out of the history books or exhibits on American history. Let’s inspire the next generation like others inspired us. That’s why it is so important to create a women’s history museum. If enough people take up the challenge, it will make a difference.
Very truly yours,
CAROLYN B. MALONEY
Member of Congress
